Wednesday, October 10 at 7:30pm

at Town Hall

Professor Steven Strogatz is the math teacher you wish you’d had. His 2010 “Elements of Math” series for The New York Times online was not only hugely popular, but also understandable and elegant in it’s simplicity. Now, in The Joy of X, he offers us all a second chance at math through simple “Aha!” moments that require no knowledge—only curiosity.

Strogatz connects the ideas of math gently and clearly to literature, philosophy, law, art, and even pop culture. Using questions like “Did O.J. do it?”, “How does Google search the Internet?”, and “How many people should you date before settling down?” Steven Strogatz illustrate the day-to-day value of math. Find the answers to these questions and more at Town Hall! Presented as part of Town Hall Science series sponsored by University Book Store and Microsoft.
